One of the greatest things about music and television is that they are a mirror of life that a person is able to connect with. They depict the joys, tragedies and comedic moments of a person's every day life. They allow a person to say hey I am going through that, I know a person who went through that or I don't want to go through that. They give you a chance to question ones own life and even give you a chance to see things and determine where you can say the buck will stop here if your faced with that.
Two of my favorite television shows which have challenged me in the area of relationships, in both romance and friendship, are Girlfriends and Sex in the City. These two hit television shows portray the everyday life of 4 female friends who are in different phases of their life and dealing with different issues. The shows portray them going through ups and downs and dealing with realistic issues. The issues that these women deal with are so broad in scope that they allow someone of my age, to relate and understand.
The women in the show are extremely well educated, employed, have good friends, beautiful but romance seems to be the major issues in the stories. Now don't get me wrong these women suffer in the other aspects of life but the premise of these shows is their romantic life. Many times conversations taking place among women about these shows about who they might be from the shows and why. You might even find some saying there is hope or their life is over because a certain thing happened to a character on one of the shows. Many people even start to pattern the choices they make in life because they might have worked for a character on the show.
Nevertheless in relating with these women comes a drastic dilemma. This dilemma is
when does fiction stop becoming fact??
Watching these shows could and have caused many women to be bitter or even scared for relationship, me being a key person. After going through my own troubles with relationships, I look at these characters and question do I have hope? Is their story going to turn into mine? The truthful answers who knows. What is displayed as fiction on my television screen may very well be my future. But it also can be a sign for me to change and make better choices.

But still with the reassuring there still is that concern. It seems that concern seems to rise from hearing songs by Ne-Yo, Rhianna, Keisha Cole, Danity Kane and soo many more. The lyrics of the songs seemed to express the tears my heart cried so eloquently. Where looking at Sex in the City and Girlfriends I was left with a true realization that this was fiction and the show even did superfluous actions, these songs are straight from experience.
So where do you draw the line so that you are not DAMAGED??
