Saturday night as I journeyed downtown excited to celebrate with one of my close friends, my heart dropped as I watched a young boy no older then the age of 14 years old jump into train tracks to retreive a basketball that he dropped. Now my heart did not drop because of the fact that he jumped into the tracks but at the fact that there was a moving train coming down the same track.
I am happy to report that the young man was not hurt or harmed, he made it back to the platform in time to make it on that same train. As the young man and his friends proceeded down the platform and made it into my car, their behavior cause for me to question what our future held and want to scream where are your parents.
These four young men had no respect for themselves, their parents or the other people that were on the train with me. They screamed, cursed, swung on poles and ran from car to car. As a black woman I was deeply borthered because yes these boys were black and they represented everything that is wrong with our community. But what honestly was the icing on the cake was when one of the young men almost kicked me in my face because he was swing on the pole. I wanted to whip his butt. You feel the need to want to say something but you never know how it will be recieved or how these children will react.
Honestly as I watched these young men act a fool all I could think was that I was looking at the monkey exhbit at the zoo. Sad part is I have seen monkeys more well behaved. I hate to say that about my own race because of what comes along with thinking about a monkey in terms of being black. But these boys made Curious George look like an Angel.
But to my parents out there please control your children. Teach them a line of respect so that they understand that they disrespect themselves, you and those around them and those who have gone before them!!!
