Help vs. Housewives

Yesterday I went to see The Help. I will say I truly enjoyed the film and it is something that everyone should see. However, I had a couple of people question why I would want to see that type of film. A few people questioned why I support a film that would portray blacks as mammies. Now at that statement I got a little upset because I actually read the book before watching the film. The story had nothing to do with that. It showed black women fight for their family and going against the grain in the racist south.

But the issue that I have most with the statement is these same people don't speak out against Housewives shows. Now lets be serious as much as I watch those shows what have some of those women actually done for the community. If they are doing anything for the community you never see it on camera. DeAndrea Snow(from the first season of Real Housewives of ATL) and NeNe Leakes are two of the few women I see capitalize on their tv time to promote improving the community.

Most people who I heard comment about the movie, didn't even read a description of the movie or even took the time to go the library and borrow the book. So my question is how do you comment on something you have no real knowledge of??

I understand why some might now want to see the movie... I watched it in a theater with a 95% white ratio and I can tell you all of them were old enough to live during the time and believe you me I wanted to ask them what they thought. There were parts that were hard to take in. But I say this if you can watch half of these reality shows then watching The Help should be no problem.
